Until 1934, it was known as Gyubel Kurfanli or Gyubel Kurofanlii, before receiving its present Bulgarian name, Savino.
The village is situated near the Sveti Iliya Heights, whose slopes are covered with a mixture of coniferous and broad-leaved woodland, including pine and oak. The surrounding agricultural land supports the cultivation of wheat, maize, barley, sunflowers and grapes, reflecting the area’s long-standing agricultural traditions. The combination of wooded hills, cultivated fields and open rural views gives the village its distinctive countryside setting.

Savino has a local community centre, known as a chitalishte, which serves as a cultural institution and library. The village also has a modern restaurant, providing a place for dining and socialising within the local community.
