There is an intriguing legend behind the name of the village. Long ago, two brothers named Deko and Dechko lived in the area. The older brother, Deko, moved to what is now the village of Dekov. Over time, his fellow villagers followed suit, settling in the new location. When asked where they were going, they would reply, “I’m heading to Deko’s place!” And so, the village came to be known as Dekov, named after the brother who first made it his home.

The village Community centre is called “Videlina – 1897”. Currently, it has four active amateur groups: Folk Group “Detelina”; Christmas Carol Group “Dekovchani”; Folk Choir Club “Veselo horo” and Children’s Amateur Dance Group “Little Dekovchanchita”.

The Orthodox church “Saint George” in the village was built in 1872 and consecrated in 1887. In 1942, the bell tower was built as an extension of the church.

Originally, the Village of Dekov celebrated its holiday on May 6th, St. George’s Day. However, after 1944, the holiday was moved to May 1st. It was later suspended for a time, but following a village assembly and an official decree, the celebration was rescheduled to May 2nd, allowing the community to also celebrate Labour Day.

A signature dish from the village of Dekov is the Stuffed Red Dried Peppers.
