Karaisen is located at the heart of the Danubian Plain and is one of the largest villages of The Municipality of Pavlikeni.

Karaisen benefits from a convenient location, being close to the Town of Pavlikeni – 10 miles away and the Town of Svishtov – 23 miles away (main road 405).

It is also only 4 miles away from the main road connecting Sofia and Ruse (the road E83).

The coastal City of Varna with its famous beach resorts and international airport is about 150 miles away.

The village is located approximately 140 miles to the capital City Sofia & International Sofia Airport, and about 100 miles away to the City of Bucharest (RO) and its International Airport “Otopeni”.

The village is only about 35 miles to the historical and touristic City of Veliko Tarnovo. Located on the famous “River Yantra” (the 3rd longest Bulgarian tributary of the Danube River), “VT” is one of the most popular destinations for tourists in Bulgaria. The population in the village is approximately 838 people.

The village has local shop, town hall, community centre, transport, bar/cafes, etc. The local area is mostly agricultural with a lot of farmland.

Legend has it that the name of the village comes from Kara Asan, Kara Hassan (Black Assen), who helped the people of the village in an epidemic by finding a new safe place for the village. In his honor the village received its present name.

Tourism and natural landmarks:

– The Karaisen Dam – situated in immediate proximity to the village and provides good conditions for fishing, and hunting too.

– The Karaisen hiking trail – it is an easily accessible walking route, including various historical landmarks of local importance. The duration of the route is about 1 hour and 30 minutes, the trail starting from the center of the village. Passing along this tourist trail, you can see: The Plane Park, Shabova fountain, Grozd Wine Cellar, Monument to Hadji Dimitar and Stefan Karadja, etc.

– The Grozd Wine Cellar – founded in 1938, the wine cellar is the second emblem of Karaisen. It was also known outside Bulgaria for the production of high quality wines. To this day, “Grozd” Karaisen is still proud of some types of wines aimed at the domestic market.
